vibram birdie bash - td info
The VBB is easy to run, fun for the players, and a money maker for you, your course, or your club. We will PayPal $5 per player to your account when we ship the player packs. We also handle event setup and registration, putting together the player and TD packs, national promotion, and shipping.
New for 2016: We will also handle all PDGA event sanctioning and player fees as well as donate over 10% of the proceeds to charity.
First time TD? The VBB is the easiest way to start.
We have a complete step by step guide to make the execution of the event smooth and flawless.
Experienced TD? The VBB is a great way to offer something new and fun while bringing new players into the fold.
- PDGA Sanctioning - All VBBs in 2016 will be PDGA Sanctioned (unless there is a compelling reason for them to not be). Vibram will be paying the PDGA Sanctioning fees. Additionally, Vibram will cover all of the player fees, whether players are PDGA members or not.
- PDGA Insurance - For an additional $50, the PDGA will issue you a proof of insurance that you can submit to your venue if they need it. All events will be covered by PDGA insurance whether the certificate is issued or not.
- Charitable donations - Over 10% of the proceeds will be donated to charity, namely Autism Speaks and St. Jude's. You can use this to gain media attention, sponsorship, and even to get more players.
- We have simplified the scoring, there are now just points for Eagles, birdies and metal hits.
- Disc choices will be limited to the new Fairway drivers (Notch, Arch, Valley, or Vamp) and the Putt and Approach discs (VP, Ridge, Sole, or Summit).
- The price has increased from $30 to $40.
- The player pack shirt is an amazing dry fit polo.
- Every player will get a $20+ Mizo M8 water bottle.
Tournament director FAQs
Will I get an email when players register? Yes. You will also be able to see your list of current registered players online.
Do I have to pay the PDGA Event Sanctioning fee?
No, we cover it.
Do players have to pay a non-PDGA member fee?
No, we cover it.
Does the TD or players have to be PDGA members?
The TD does. The players do not.
Does my event have to be PDGA Sanctioned?
Yes, unless there are extenuating circumstances like the TD is not a PDGA member and cannot find an assistant who is a PDGA member to be listed as the TD on the PDGA site.
Is there a cut-off date for registering events? Yes. You must register your event between Dec 1, 2014 and six weeks before the event. In all cases, the sooner the better.
Do players have to pre-register? Yes. Registration will close the Sunday prior to your event at midnight, Hawaii time. This is to ensure that we are able to properly fulfill all player orders and get their packs to the event on time. If you would like to get extra packs, you can purchase "spot holder" player packs.
Can I get a complete set of Vibram discs for people to test, and to use as prizes or CTPs? Yes, you will be emailed a link to the TD VBB Complete Vibram Set product in our online store when your event setup is complete.
Can I register an event outside the USA? Canada: yes, although we charge $45 and close registration a week early for shipping. All others, not yet.
Can I run multiple events? Yes, there is no limit to the number of events one TD can hold.
Can events be run close to each other? on the same weekend? Yes, there are no proximity rules, although decorum would dictate that you check with other TDs that are holding events in close proximity and/or on close weekends to your event.
When is the cutoff for signing up events? Six weeks prior to the event date. You need to give us time to get the event setup and to ship the player packs to you. After this, a six week lead time gives you four weeks to get players signed up, which sounds about right to us.
Should I leave the divisions as they are? Yes, the four divisions will be MPO, FPO, MJ3, FJ3. We will need these divisions to be used so that the link with the PDGA will update the players list on the PDGA correctly. There is no payout, so the MPO / FPO designation is just for reporting purposes.
Can I accept registrations in person? Yes, but you will need to register them online yourself so they get their player pack and the available spots is accurate.
Can one course hold multiple events? Yes, but please make sure to differentiate them significantly when you register them.
Can we hold it on a 9 hole course? Yes, we would simply recommend playing through the course twice each round.
How can players learn about Vibram's discs? You can direct them to our Vibram Discs webpage.
Will I get a list of registered players with their shirt size and disc choices? Yes.
Will I be able to go online and view a list of current registered players? Yes.
Can I sell mulligans? In the first round yes, please make them affordable ($1 each or so). In the second round no. When people are grouped and competing head to head in the 2nd round, we ask that you do not.
Can TDs play? Yes. we suggest putting yourself on a hole close to tournament central so you finish as one of the first groups back. Also, you should have a helper to collect score cards in case your group runs late.
Am I supposed to use the $5 to pay for lunch? Not unless you want to. This is money to you as a thank you. You can give it to the course fund, keep it, use it as a CTP or, help pay for lunch.
Will players be able to order the newest discs? Players will have their choice of our new Fairway drivers (Notch, Arch, Valley, or Vamp) and their choice of putt and approach discs (VP, Ridge, Sole, or Summit)
How does the scoring work?
Eagles are 5 points, Birdies are 2 points, and metal hits are 1 point. Players must use only the two discs they got in their player pack. Players throw one less shot than par (eg. twice on a par 3). That's it. Nice and easy
Can I order extra player packs? Yes, and you do this by purchasing player packs as if a player were registering. You purchase the player packs at $40 and we will send $5 of each back to you as if it was a standard player purchase.
